About PEL

Wholehearted Commitment

There are just two things we need to do to prevent catastrophic climate breakdown: leave fossil fuels in the ground and stop farming animals. Transforming our diets away from animal agriculture, which drives massive biodiversity loss and deforestation, toward improved, sustainable production of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds, is a realistic and attainable solution.

Plants-Earth-Life (PEL) is focused on transitioning the global population toward eating a Planetary Health diet.  A Planetary Health Diet consists of mainly whole-food, plant-based nutrition, which results in minimal environmental impact compared to a mostly animal-based diet. The Planetary Health Diet is not a vegan diet, but rather a diet that emphasizes plant-based, whole foods grown efficiently in an environmentally sustainable manner.

Shifting the global population to a Planetary Health Diet would avert approximately 11 million deaths a year; that’s 22% of the deaths that occur on Earth each year.  There is an overwhelming body of evidence that a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds is the method to achieve both the highest attainable health for an individual and a thriving, cleaner earth.

Our goal is to improve human health and halt planetary and environmental damage through a global transition toward consuming food consistent with the tenets of the Planetary Health Diet.

Primary activities filed in Massachusetts Registration of a non-profit corporation:

Provide consulting services and implement activities in the fields of health, namely providing advice regarding the impacts of eating a diet that protects the global ecosystems, allows for sustainable agriculture, allows humans to reach the highest attainable health and advances planetary health. Providing Planetary Health Diet information to health care workers, schools and universities, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, and the public at large.

Primary Activities Include:

  • Consulting organizations on the benefits of the Planetary Health Diet and ways to promote its uptake as a part of a global food transition (transformation to healthy diets by 2050).

  • Educating the people about the benefits of the Planetary Health Diet and ways to transition to it.

  • Work with the US government and US health care systems to eliminate the “food deserts” in the US.

  • Work with governments and their ministries of health in resource-constrained countries to adopt the tenets of the Planetary Health Diet.

  • Adopt “Food is Medicine” – a set of food-based nutrition programs and interventions integrated into the health care system to advance specific health needs and health equity in different populations – in the US and globally.
